A storyboard can be a vital step to mark the start of a story. Storyboarding helps many creative minds in creating clarity and definite structure in their stories.

If you want to up your storyboarding skills and use them professionally, you can follow the tips mentioned below.

Write Down Your Ideas

The creative process can be a bit tricky at times. Ideas always come and go in a snap. That is why you should keep your ideas written and beautifully organized in a certain manner to remember them down the line. You can use small sticky notes to create the structure of whole story.

You can write down the ideas in no particular order, you never need to start from the first idea and get follow a sequence. Just write down whatever crosses your mind.

Arrange Your Ideas

Once you have converted one piece of story from written ideas into some rough pictures, you can now start shuffling them and eliminating the unnecessary parts unless it starts to make sense.

Once the sequence is finalized, you can then move on to make the real character images.

Never Drag The Opening Sequence

One of the most common mistakes that storyboard artists make is that they drag the opening sequence too much. You should never do that.

Provide a clear and brief idea to the viewers, and then cut to the next sequence. You can extent that opening sequence later on as the story progresses.

Be Flexible

Do not restrict yourself to the lines you thought of early on. This is an easy recipe of failure. Rather, keep yourself open to new ideas and keep making amendments wherever necessary as the story progresses. Being flexible can help you a lot in making a great story without any flaws.
